Benita Best
Benita Best, BA, BS, LMT, RYT 200, is the owner and founder of bbHOLISTIC located in Homewood, IL. She obtained her degree in Psychology from Tougaloo College and a degree in Nutrition from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Benita realized her true passion for serving, advocating, assisting, healing, helping others to feel well and live better, especially those in underserved communities early on in her career. However, she didn’t know that her work experience with parenting teens, mental health, child welfare, maternal and child health, a government agency, being a school counselor, providing community nutrition, and coordinating programs, events and fundraisers were molding, shaping, preparing and leading her towards a holistic wellness path. In 2003, Benita became a vegan after attending a health seminar at a church facilitated by a naturopathic doctor. Not long after that, Benita received a revelation that she would become an entrepreneur. Her holistic journey began to unfold when she naturally became intrigued and drawn to alternative health practices. Benita enrolled in yoga classes and was introduced to Vipassana meditation. She loved the positive benefits both had on her mind, body, and spirit. A strong desire to want others to also experience the benefits motivated her to complete her yoga teacher training in 2013 at Reflections Yoga Center. Simultaneously, Benita became passionate about combating diet related health issues in the community, preventative care, and helping people to live and eat healthier, this inspired her to pursue and obtain a degree in nutrition. Next, Benita was drawn to massage therapy after randomly discovering the power of a healing touch and being impressed with its therapeutic benefits. In 2018, Benita passed the MBLEX and became a licensed massage therapist; she is very passionate and appreciative of her gift aka “healing hands.” On Benita’s journey, she received a clear vision of a holistic wellness space, and it made her think of a holistic village. Approximately 13 years, Benita stayed focused, and was determined to do her part to make God’s vision come to fruition. She believes her life is not her own and often reflects on her favorite quote, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Benita believes that her love for serving and helping others, obedience, and faith, not only guided her to find her life’s purpose, but also the bbHOLISTIC Village.
